Isabelle Trépanier

General Secretary

CHU de Québec

Dear union reps,

On the strength of the experience I have acquired over the last twenty years as a union rep, I am renewing my candidacy for the position of General Secretary of the FIQ Executive Committee with determination.

As our organization evolves, we need to facilitate democratic life, encourage inclusive participation in debates and strengthen local and provincial union life. This reflects my own approach and the work carried out with the work group on the Constitution. I am proud of the work accomplished in my first term, in particular deploying the pilot project on hybrid decision-making bodies making a tangible contribution to improving the balance between activism and the personal and family lives of union reps, most of whom are women.

My unifying leadership is based on teamwork. I encourage that all points of view are shared for the best decision-making. I propose innovative ideas, even if they are sometimes at cross-purposes, so that we can examine all perspectives and identify the best opportunities to deploy our actions. I want to contribute to a strong FIQ that is influential and respected in Quebec’s union and political spheres, with members who are proud of their union membership. Fighting for a feminist, more inclusive organization that is more respectful of the environment and welcoming of the next generation of union reps is a daily source of motivation. This is at the heart of my values and my commitment. What’s more, the issues that will be debated at the forthcoming convention reflect the vision of the future to which I aspire.

I offer a complementary perspective to my colleagues, which enables us to better define our priority actions to improve our members’ working conditions. My work is often behind the scenes and requires rigour and fairness to ensure a healthy democratic life.

As a progressive, I am concerned about the incursion of the private sector into healthcare and the challenges associated with an excessive workload, because they also have an impact on the quality of care provided to the public. Moreover, integrating the realities of the EPCs and Northern Québec is essential to our uniqueness. In this respect, I want to put my experience to good use.

I would like to thank you for your trust and your commitment to me, because together we can go further.

In Solidarity,
