Pascal Beaulieu

Nurse vice-president (Labour Relations, Research, Legal)

CHU de Québec

Dear union reps,

I am originally from Rivière-du-Loup. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a nurse. I graduated from CÉGEP in 1995. I then completed a community health certificate and a short program in emergency care. I left my region, due to lack of work, in 1999 to work at the Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus in Quebec City. I have been active in the union since 2001 and have always been involved in labour relations and negotiations. I am currently the RLT VP at SICHU de Québec.

For nearly 25 years, we have lived through countless transformations in the health network. They have attacked public services, our working and practice conditions.  Defending our rights, our professions, our members and the public network has always been at the heart of my union and social action. To that end, I have always been an active member of the delegation. I sat on several federation committees (EAC, IAC) and I was a member of the FIQ Negotiating Committee during the last round of negotiations.

Labour relations with Santé Québec have taken on a whole new dimension. And what about the next round of ‘local’ negotiations? We’ll need to consolidate our bargaining power and influence while remaining active with the EPCs and the North.

I’ve always been open and willing to learn. That’s how I’ve gained, and am still gaining, experience. I want to put this experience to good use, for your benefit. Through all the turmoil we’ve been through, I’ve never been afraid to speak up and take part in discussions and debates. Over the years, it has become clear to me that it is with integrity, communication, leadership and transparency that trust can be generated and consolidated. These are qualities that I consider essential and that guide me in my career. We’ll need them to meet the challenges of the single employer.

Many of you have told me that it’s time to take the plunge. So I’m thrilled to invite you to take the plunge with me.
